EATING DAISIES

VULNERABILITY, POWER, COMBAT, CONSUMPTION: EATING DAISIES DIVES INTO THE WORLD OF THE CINEMATIC TO SHED LIGHT ON FILM’S MOST SOUGHT AFTER MUSE: THE FEMALE BODY. INSPIRED BY THE SPLICING PROCESS OF FILMMAKING, THE WORK DISPLAYS THE “FEMININE” THROUGH A SERIES OF DREAMLIKE SCENES CALLING TO QUESTION SOCIETY’S NARROW DEFINITION OF FEMALE. USING MEDIA TO GENERATE A SHIFTING ENVIRONMENT, EATING DAISIES, PUSHES US TO OUR PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL LIMITS. CHALLENGING THE ENDURANCE OF OUR NATURAL BODIES MOVING INTO SPACE THAT IS UNBOUND.

SHEDDING

WE ARE BORN WITH NEW SKIN. FEELINGS AND SENSATIONS LEAVE LANDMARKS ON THE BODY. IT IS A PHYSICAL MEMORY OF WHO WE ARE AND WHO OTHERS HAVE BEEN TO US.

THIS WORK IS A PROCESS OF EXTRACTION. REMOVING CHOSEN MOMENTS SO THAT THE BODY MAY HEAL AND BECOME NEW.

LOVE ME NOTS

“LOVE ME... LOVE ME NOT” SLOWLY THE PETALS ARE PLUCKED FROM A SINGLE STEM. “LOVE ME.” THE PETAL PULLS WITH SOME EFFORT BUT GENTLY SLIPS FROM MY FINGERS AND DRIFTS TO THE GROUND. “LOVE ME NOT.” THE PETAL COMES EASILY, THIN BETWEEN THE TIPS OF MY FINGERS. SLOWLY I RAISE THE bit OF DAISY TO MY LIPS AND SWALLOW. REPEAT. NOURISHING THE EARTH WITH I LOVE YOUS.

OPHILOPHILIA

THIS WORK IS A STUDY OF THE POWER OF FEMALE SEXUALITY. IN THREE PARTS "THE DROWNING VIRGIN" "SIRENS" AND "THE CANVAS." THE FEMALE FORM IS PRESENTED IN A SERIES OF ARCHETYPAL WOMEN. THE DROWNING VIRGIN'S LIFE IS TAKEN AS RESULT OF HER LOSS OF VIRGINITY AND THEREFORE HER DEATH IN WATER IS ALSO A CLEANSING. SIRENS ARE THE SEXUAL TEMPTATIONS TO MEN BOTH FULLY EMPOWERED IN THEIR SEXUALITY AND PORTRAYED AS A THREAT TO PATRIARCHAL ORDER. THE FINAL PRESENTATION IS A BLANK CANVAS. A SINGULAR UNCHARGED FEMALE BODY PRESENTS A MOMENT OF REFLECTION. CAN THE FEMALE FORM EXIST ON STAGE OUTSIDE OF THE TWO POLARIZED OPTIONS WITHIN ONE'S OWN MIND?

WASHING DISTORTIONS

THIS PRODUCT IS A RESULT OF THE PROCESS. SHOT ON DIGITAL AND TRANSFERRED TO 16MM HI-CON FILM. THE ANALOG FILM WAS PROCESSED AS MONOFLEX. AS A RESULT OF A HAPPY ACCIDENT IN THE REVERSAL BLEACH PROCESS, THE IMAGE WITHIN THE FILM FRAME THAT WAS NOT COVERED TURNED BLACK LEAVING ONLY THE NEGATIVE IMAGE OF THE DANCER WITHIN THE PIECES OF THE FRAME. THE WORK IS A TRICK FOR THE EYES SEARCHING FOR THE IMAGE AS IT IS HIDDEN IN DISTORTION.
